Increasing Credit line - hard or soft pull?

Is requesting an increase for a line of credit on a credit card a hard or soft pull?

    #2
Usually a soft pull. However, this depends on your specific creditor. You would ask them whether they do a "promotional" Inquiry or a new credit inquiry.

Most of the larger creditors, Bank of America, Chase, American Express, use soft pulls. Some even use the data that they have already collected through their monthly or quarterly updates. (I know that American Express does monthly soft pulls to check how you're doing on other accounts. This is called an account review. They actually are still doing it to me and I'm in Bankruptcy! But it doesn't hurt anything.)

Pulls, hard or soft, no longer effect credit in any "meaningful" way.
