I'd be surprised if you didn't find lots of complaints. I'm pretty sure a similar search of most card issuers will reveal similar findings simply because most don't read and understand what they are signing. When things go south they assume the issuer is playing games. Sometimes they are.

I've had HSBC both pre and post bankruptcy, get my statements via mail and email and haven't had an issue. I pay my card using my credit union's bill pay feature and it's always applied by the next day.

I haven't had my card long, but if you're paying as you're supposed to, I don't see what the complaints are about.

ONLY speaking from experience, I'm not saying to dismiss the complaints.....My husband and I have both HSBC cards (Orchard) for about a year now and have had great luck. Their customer service has always been good and we have been happy with their services.

I did discharge a HSBC card with about a $2000 balance. Got approved for $100 credit limit on this one, which is fine with me. Was discharged in May and this is the first card I've applied for post-bk.

Just checked. Credit limit is $1500. 5 months post discharge and score from myfico last time I checked (April 2010) was 618.

I did get the HSBC MasterCard just before discharge, but the limit on that is $500. I've been using that one for gas and my netflix charges and pay it off each month. This one will be used just for rental cars and hotels when I have to travel.

I really didn't want credit cards after filing, but all the advice I can find indicates that you need multiple credit lines to rebuild and I'd like to buy a new house in 2-3 years, (provided the market has bottomed by then.)

Thanks so much for taking the time to post that, jadams.

Now that I know I was definitely approved ($300), I'll be able to sleep tonight!

Go to hsbccreditcard.com -- on the right side is a "Check Application Status" link.

That should pull up your credit limit information.

(FYI: This link works for just about any HSBC product, so if you have other HSBC applications recent/outstanding, look carefully to see what product it's pulling up. I believe the top logo graphic is the only thing that changes to indicate what app it is.)

Okay, finally got brave enough to apply. (This is the first card I've applied for since my discharge in January.) All the online response said was:

Everybody else's posts seem to indicate that they were advised of their credit limits immediately. Should I worry because I wasn't?

My new Cap 1 card has a $300 limit. I'm glad BBRewards/HSBC and Capital One approved me because I wasn't sure I would get either. Just got my BB statement via email today.
