Getting an AMEX card after discharge...

Hi everybody,

I was discharged in October and recently applied for an Amex card but was denied. The decline reason letter showed it was because of the BK. I had no Amex debt discharged. Has anybody gotten an Amex after BK? If so, how long did you have to wait after discharge? Should I appeal the denial or apply for a specific type of Amex?

As long as a BK is on your credit report, AMEX will probably not consider you for credit. Be careful right after discharge applying for too many credit cards. All those hard inquiries will also work against you and it does not look good at all to any creditor to see someone fresh out of BK applying for lots of credit. Remember, the BK on your credit reports makes you a HUGE credit risk - while BK may give you a fresh start financially, you have to again take several years to prove that you may be once again credit worthy.
