    Need some help...

I'm almost 3 months post discharge and haven't done a thing to start rebuilding our credit.

Currently our scores are terrible and worried we will have a hard time finding a rental when that time comes.

I don't even know where to begin....Any suggestions? Also I have that judgment I need to vacate but have no clue how?

freddy, we hired another atty to handle the motion to vacate the judgement, mainly because the order also needs to be recorded and it was just easier to have someone else handle it. i would call your atty that handled the bk and see what they charge. we found one that was substantially less and still got the job done.

3 months out, i don't remember, but i know it was a while before we got some reasonable offers for credit. maybe start at insight or fairwinds credit union with secured cards if no offers have been sent yet.

personally, i don't think applying and applying will help your score, so IMHO, for that reason, since i wouldn't want my score to go down due to inquiries, i would work on the a secured credit card first. i'm certain you'll get someone input and hopefully someone will have a better suggestion?

I would think that the typical landlord would only care about whether a renter has a clean record paying the rent.

Not true. Many rentals properties base their decison on your total credit report not just your ability to pay. It's harder to rent if you have an eviction but even if you don't have that it can be difficult with a bankruptcy on your report.

freddy, also, there are so many rentals here now, money talks i think really.

i don't think you'll have a problem when the time comes.

The fear of not being able to rent is overblown. NO ONE WHO FILES BK IS HOMELESS.

Yes, landlords pull credit, but they are not looking at credit score, they look for public records of evictions and the type of debts (e.g. utilities and monthly bills that went into collection). So long as you have the deposit and a relatively stable job history, you can easily rent notwithstanding the bankruptcy.

Good to know - thanks. All our pre bk debt was credit cards and mortgage. We have a great rental history prior to buying our house.

Tobee- I have noticed more and more houses here in FL for rent. Brand new houses! I'm hoping we can find something really nice when our time comes.

i know freddy! a ton of them with landlords dying to get someone in there. even if they run a credit report and don't like it, money talk and if you offer them a large security and i.e. 5 months in advance you'll be fine! and believe me, those landlords will be happy too!
