    Disputing

    Hi everyone,
This is such a great site and very informative! I'm really glad to be on here and glad I found this site. My question is I have tried disputing errors on my credit report online and I am still getting updates back from equifax, experian and transunion stating that my debts are valid but they were actually discharged in chapter 7 bankruptcy in April 2005. So I have created a dispute letter that I am going to send certified mail and I want to know if I should also include a copy of my discharge paper and the paperwork that shows what creditors were included when I filed for bankruptcy. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

well one thing...is the debt still on your report listed as open? or IIB with zero balance?
If it is IIB then there really isn't much to do you can dispute. You can dispute if you want but they do not have to take it off , beacuse it was a valid debt at some point. that is what I have ran into.
All of our accounts are listed as IIB and have a zero balnce. So basically nothing much to do.
However I have gone back and try other things to get it removed. Some I have had luck with.....like I got my judgment off my Experian , but not off Trans...never was on Equifax .
I also have gotten collection accounts off my reports even though they were reporting correctly, by stating "not coded correctly. original creditor verified debt is not valid" this has work for quite a few of our accounts.

    So I hope this helps.

I have been VERY successfull i disputing small things (one at the time) like:
date account was open is incorrect
high balance on the account is incorrect
      credit limit is incorrect
      etc.
      etc.
You can dispute ANYTHING! Another good one is "This account information is incorrect and misleading. Please verify all aspects of the account or removed the negative information."
Just keep disputing. Just make sure each time is different.

      Good luck!

NEVER EVER send a copy of the creditor matrix, OR the discharge papers. If they can't verify it, it MUST be removed, period.

Don't do the work for them!!!!!!

Sometimes I have 2 CRA companies reporting no late payments on a student loan, and then another saying there are a few lates. I'm guessing it was probably late but a long long time ago (on the edge of the 7 years.) Is it something I should dispute?

I don't really want to send them the creditor matrix either but when I am disputing they keep saying the debt has been verified. I would like the accounts to say included in bankruptcy and to show no balance owed.

Thank you all for your advice !

Some of the accounts I have are reporting open and with a balance and they do not say IIB. When I look at my credit reports on Truecredit.com they are including the balances I have into my total debt that I owe. Has anyone had any luck with calling experian or equifax or am I better off disputing by mail?

When disputing..do you send letters to the creditors and the 3 credit agencies? What should I "say" in the letter?

I am very confused!! (Just a little info) My BK was discharged 2/06...everything on my credit report is Collection Chargeoff and all have bal due. Not 1 of my debts have anything about BK in it, nor have changed since my BK was discharged.

Amyl- If you access the Rebuilding Credit section there is a sticky that says: Sample Letters to Creditors/CRA's . There is a link in that topic that has sample dispute letters so that you can get an idea of what information you need to input. I used one of the sample letters to dispute a few errors on my Equifax credit report and it worked. I currently use True Credit to dispute my Trans Union and Experian errors since they offer online disputing.
                    Hope this helps!

The sample letters are awsome, they helped with some but not all.

I had one creditor list 4 seperate times the same account but in different amounts. I got the CRA to remove 2 but there are still 2 left. I am going to try to get them off once we are settled in the new place.
