    IN Tears!

    Well, i'm in trouble now

my hot water heater has died and i don't have the money to replace it. I have no idea what i'm going to do here. To fix it cost almost as much as it is to get a new one installed.........

I don't know what to do.

Start by looking at craiglist.com in your area. Great bargains to be found there. Also look in the want ads in your local paper for used water heaters. If you are a member of a church or other community group, let them know that you need a used water heater. Finally call local plumbers in your area to tell them you are looking for a working used water heater. They often remove these from homes when they are installing a bigger one and will sell them to you for a very reduced cost.

Each of these approaches will get you a working water heater for much less than retail. I hope you find one very soon!

Ask family, friends, neighbors if anyone is handy or a plumber. Someone might be able to identify the bad part and replace it for next to nothing.

If it's a gas hot water heater, you might just need a new flame jet. An electric heater, you might just need a new heating element.

Hopefully, it can be a cheap fix. And someone you know will have the knowledge and tools to perform the repair for next to nothing.

I'm a plumber and work on water heaters almost everyday. Tell me what it's doing and maybe I can tell you how to fix it.

            Pse&g -

Does PSE&G service your area? If so, there is information on their website at :

You can tack the cost of hot water heaters, air conditioners, furnaces, etc. onto your monthly service bill. Not that you WANT to create a higher bill, but I believe this does qualify as an emergency of sorts. I know because we just had this happen about a month ago.

If PSE&G does not service your area, then, perhaps, your own utility company has a similar service?

            Wishing you luck,
            Mrs. H.
