    Update on Inheritance

    Over 5 weeks ago, my attorney notified the trustee by e-mail of the inheritance...I still have not heard a word. My attorney said that we have done everything required by us. He is not reminding the trustee again of the money. I would have thought the trustee would have pounced on the money. Just to CYA, I printed all of the correspondence to the attorney and the e-mails that the attorney forwarded to the trustee's office.

    I still believe that sooner or later the trustee will demand the money, but in the meantime do you think that it would okay to move the money to an ING account? For 2 reasons: 1) I won't be tempted to spend it and 2) It will earn some decent interest before I have to turn it over.

    Chapter 13: Discharged 03/15/2010. Closed 05/19/2010::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

    As long as you can produce the money when the trustee asks for it, you can move it anywhere you want. Good idea to get some interest for yourself in the meantime!

      At our 341, the Trustee said he wanted to see our '06 filed Income Taxes. He was going after our refunds if the total was in excess of $1K.

      Our attny advised when we filed to go for checks. Not Direct Deposit. That way we could hang onto the checks. Direct Deposit was too easy to spend.

      I don't see any harm in "investing" the money and earning a little interest. If/When the Trustee asks for the money, just be sure you have it all, lump sum. The Trustee won't care if it's a check from the Estate or from you. Money is all he/she's interested in.

      I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.
