    Update on the house situation

    Hi everyone,

I don't post much these days--mostly just lurk a bit. Lots going on here.

We are moving the end of this month, but unfortunately our house has not sold. We made the gut-wrenching decision to "abandon the property" and it has gone through. Wage order changed last week. Our realtor has not done a good job at all even though I know the market is slow.

I hate to admit it, but I am having a hard time with this. I am so tired after work (REALLY stressful job) and the last thing I want to do is pack and move boxes, clean, deal with utility companies, etc.

Sorry I'm complaining. I know I am blessed and that my family will be much better off once we are settled in.

    Peace to all of you,
    jane

It's ok to complain...we all need to sometimes, and this board is great therapy. As far as everything, though, look at the big picture, and where you'll be and how much better off you'll be financially and probably mentally after all of this if over.

Jane, what a difficult time for you! You know in your heart you are doing the right thing with the house, and you are so right that everything will be better once the move is over.

Do you live in a college town? Many students are looking for some quick money - they make great packers given a little cash if you have a little extra at the moment. Just a thought for you.... I'd come help you pack if we lived in the same town....wish we did!

I know what you're going thru, Jane.

The last time I was at our house, it was as if I knew it would be "THE LAST TIME". We picked pears off the tree we'd planted. I gathered herbs from the herb garden we'd started. And I cried the whole time. As it happened,........... That was the last time we were ever at our house.

One thing that helped us move the last time was a storage unit. We rented one for 2 or 3 months. We packed boxes of stuff we knew we could live without. Moved boxes, pieces of furniture, tools and such to the storage unit. Made "The Move" lots easier. Less things to deal with. And we could clean the storage unit out at our own pace after we all had had a break from "The Move".

My heart goes out to you. Bankruptcy is hard enough and you have to give up the house that you love. Complain all you want. That is what we are here for.

We have rented a POD which is helpful. No, I don't live in a college town, but some of my son's buddies are helping as well as a colleague of mine.

What makes it even more challenging is that I have a chronic illness that waxes and wanes (fibromyalgia) and I literally don't have the strength I'd like to have to do everything I want to do.

            Thanks for listening and understanding.

Just some hugs for you. I can't imagine giving up a house you love. Now look towards the future, not the past. Good luck!

I don't know if this is something you could work in your budget, or it it's even available, but,.............

We hired Two Men and a Truck to come move all the big stuff. Within 3 hours of the time they arrived, they had all our furniture, the piano, and our appliances moved from the old house to the new place.

The price was about the same as renting a U-Haul truck and paying mileage and gas for 24 hours. And we didn't have to do all the really hard work ourselves.
