    Impact on Insurance

Does filing a Chapter 13 have any impact on your auto and home insurance policies?

you will probably get several different answers as companies and states are different. Personally, my insurance actually went down during my 13.

I had a claim after my Chapter 13 started, they cancelled, and I am paying through the gentilia right now for homeowners insurance due to my poor credit and a claim.

My auto insurance jumped because I had a credit card with state farm that we bk'd.

If your state allows credit profiling, bad credit and/or BK will probably affect your rates. If your state does not have credit profiling, you should be fine.

Ours even ran our credit but has never gone up but we have had the same company for 17 years, car, home, life.

Our car insurance went up, but our broker told us it was because our cars were getting older. We shopped around and just signed up with Geico for almost half of what we were paying Allstate. The quote did go up a bit after I applied, but it was because I had a claim 4 years ago, and I guess each insurance company can decide how far back they want to look.

We'll be shopping around for new homeowners insurance next year because we had 2 claims in a calendar year. We got our renewal and it only went up $300 for the year, but our most recent claim wasn't completed yet, so I'm sure when the final number is in, the rates will sky rocket, but I have a year to worry about it.

Ours is State Farm and they NEVER raised their rates. We've been with them for 25 years but didn't matter. They still raised it. We have renters insurance and car with them.

We have American National, had State Farm years ago, they canceled policy after I filed a claim. American National has always been great ,we have even filed claims without a increase. and after 3 years calim free you gte 25% cash back of what you pay in each year for house and car.

You just need to be real careful with your HO insurance, especially if you live in Florida. Many Co's here are no longer writing new policies. Always check and double check before you cancel or let your HO insurance expire!

no, it wasn't. I was paying 91.00/mo which included ONE car and renters insurance and now it is 107.00/mo...so about $200/year...
                            Not bad at all.
