    The Credit Counseling requirement!?

I have heard you must go through a CC service before filing Chapter 13. How far do you have to deal with these people in order to satisfy the court? We all know many of them are shady, and most are a train wreck waiting to destroy your credit with all the problems. Do you actually have to start a plan with them and send them all your money? Or just talk to them and have them go through everything with you and not actually go head on in trusting them to fix things?

This has to be the scariest part, I hope im reading to much into it.

You call the Counseling company, they asked you about income, taxes, bills, then they give you a plan or tell you BK is in fact the best option for you. You don't have to accept a plan they offer you. The only thing you need is a cert from them to satisfy the requirement to file.

And I think there is a link or post about some Counseling companies that are ok. We used Green Path.

I just did our credit counseling post filing yesterday - what a farce - just another way for someone to get your money! It toook me approximately 15 minutes online as I already had all our account balances, etc. prepared for our attorney, and then we had to call the credit counseling outfit, which took about five minutes. All they did was go over the information I had entered online! They asked if we had an attorney to which we replied yes. They didn't offer any kind of repayment plan or anything. They e-mailed our certificates to us within five minutes of hanging up the phone. This was actually the most non-stressful part of this whole mess we've gotten ourselves into.

My counseling was included with attorney fees. The call took 45 minutes. The counselor told me what I already knew. The counselor sent a copy of the cert to my attorney and one to me.

I did both of mine on line. I spoke with no one. The first one took 10 minutes, the second one took 2 hours (it requires you to take 2 hours). The next day I recieved my certificate.
