It usually takes about 90 days after your last payment; could be a bit longer.

Early Buy-Out: April 2006
Discharge: August 2006 "A credit card is a snake in your pocket"
Like most BK related issues, I'm sure it varies from district to district and trustee to trustee.
In our case, things moved pretty rapidly once the train started moving. The 'stop payment' order was issued by the trustee around the end of March. A check for our overpayment was issued on April 1st and the discharge was dated April 23rd.
So while some may experience lengthy delays, not everyone does. At the time, it did seem like every day was a week long... but it happened fairly quickly for us and we're on our way to rebuilding.
Our three year plan was completed (and we were notified in writing by our trustee of 'plan completion') at the end of January 2008. At that time we were told we still needed the discharge papers and were told it could take 'up to' 90 days until the trustee could distribute and clear all the final checks made to creditors.
We met our plan base in November 2007 and the 'stop' payment order on the autodeduct from the paychecks didn't come until after completion and in early March; a HUGE check for overpayment finally arrived late April ... now we thought all that took forever but we are still waiting for discharge paperwork, which feels even longer. We are so anxious!
