I used my legal insurance. Paid $250 (or something like that) for the filing fee. Everything else was covered.

wow...I feel pretty lucky with my rate, I was also able to pay my filing fee through the plan. Its amazing how much these rates differ in different parts of the country

In Michigan, I paid 500 up front and all the rest in the plan. Was originally 1500 more but now up to 2100 as the years have past (2) and the attorney has been making sure my tax refunds and tax returns got to the right person at the trustee's office.

Although these types of posts are a curiosity, they are not very useful in the sense that you cannot do anything with the info.

Nearly every BK district sets the maximum an attorney can charge for the "standard" services of a chapter 13. Whether attorneys charge that maximum depends on market competitiveness, but in any event, attorney's charge what they charge, you either pay it, find another attorney, or go pro se

By the same token, I believe low fee's can indicate what you may potentially be getting into as well. In other words, "you get what you pay for" in many cases. I paid $800 for my first attorney here in N.Y. (completey worhtless) who talked me right into a chapter 7 on $90,000 anual salary. After the chapter 7 trustee laughed at me and suggested that I convert to a chapter 13 my attorney then decided to inform me that he didn't do 13's. So when I converted to a 13 I found a very reputable attorney and paid $3,000 before the new bankruptcy laws and he has been fantastic!!! I was so p*$$ed at our first attorney I gave him a thourough @$$ chewing, and he actually refunded my money. He must have felt bad after telling me to stop paying my credit cards in November and didn't file our paperwork until April (he also neglected to tell me that he goes to California every winter). So now I have a chapter 7 and a chapter 13 on my credit report - FUN!! My suggestion - take your time in selecting an attorney, don't let money be the deciding factor. You will pay for it some how in the end either way!!!

i paid $5000 in NY. Seemed very pricy to me, but the attorney was up front with me. He told me i could find a cheaper attorney and i could also find a more expensive attorney. He said you get what you pay for with bankruptcy, there are alot of "wham bam thank you maam" attorneys that will overlook items in your case. So far im happy, but we've yet to file and its been 6 months since ive paid but to his defense its a complicated ch 13 with recent usage.
