    Exemptions in NOLO book- question

there is an area for expemptions in Oregon, and I'm looking at the wage exemption it reads:
"75% of disposeable wages or $170 a week whichever is greater"

Wages are exempt? I'm really confused.

Those exemptions are really related to creditor collections. They apply in Bankruptcy because there are creditors trying to collect. However, most State Exemptions are about protecting certain money from "legal process" (lawsuit, garnishment, etc.).

When in a Bankruptcy, the Bankruptcy Code incorporates either the State Exemptions or the Federal Exemptions. In some cases, you can choose one or the other, or don't have a choice (e.g. in Florida, you can only use the Florida Exemptions and the Federal "supplemental" exemptions).

So, for your purposes of the Bankruptcy... ignore the "wage" exemption stuff.
