We are very lucky - our trustee allows personal checks to make our payments. Most don't.

For the first two years of our plan, we dropped off a personal check at our trustee's local office every month and left with a receipt slip proving payment was made. Then our trustee changed his deposit account to a remote location in an eastern state, so now we use our bank's online bill pay feature to pay our monthly payment.

Our local bank sends the check out automatically to our trustee two weeks before it's due every month. If it ever disappears or doesn't arrive on time, we have independent, reliable proof that the check was actually sent well in advance of its actual due date. And one of us doesn't have to get money orders or certified checks every month, and there are no extra trips to the post office to mail them registered return receipt either.

Simple and straightforward.....the perfect solution as long as your bank has proven already that they don't mess up their online bill pays and that you always without fail have enough money in your account to ensure the check can be taken out on the designated day

My trustee does an ACH right out of my bank account so there is nothing more I need to do.

those of you who can do billpay are lucky. we can't. but I am happy we don't have to do paycheck deductions.

it did cost $8 for a cashiers check at my bank, they don't do money orders.

Why are you wasting your money on cashier's checks? I go to my local post office and pay the postman $1.15 for my mine.

it was my first payment...I didn't know....

I also don't want to go to the bank and withdraw this large of a sum and go to another location to buy the money order. I thought my bank would sell them and was surprised at the cost.

Regular mail and I go to Walmart and get a money order - I think the cost of the money order is .47. I know it was significantly less to get it from Walmart (customer service) than the post office or the bank. And I was able to use my debit card to purchase the money order - I tried at a grocery store customer service that did money orders and they only do them in increments of $500 and require cash, so I would've had to get 2 money orders...
