We owe a local medical group about $100. It was a cost that we thought would be paid by my husband's medical insurance. It's a long story but he had been suspended from his job and I was afraid that he'd lose his job (which he did eventually) and so before he would lose his insurance benefits I had a mammogram done. It turns out that even though I had it the beginning of May the group didn't turn it into the insurance until a few weeks later and even though the insurance paid for things since the mammogram was done, ie. prescriptions, we got a rejection for the mammogram saying that my husband no longer had insurance even though he hadn't been fired at this point. When my husband talked to the insurance representative he insinuated that if we'd want to push this bill, we could risk having to pay back all the money that was paid out on all of our prescriptions and doctor visits from January to May, which probably would have amounted to a thousand dollars at the least. We decided to just drop it, even though they should have technically paid the bill. Being bullied around once more by big business and the poor person having to pay. Anyway....my husband wrote this medical group a letter saying that we couldn't pay the whole thing and would only be paying $10/mo on it. They didn't say anything to the contrary and they've been sending us a monthly bill and we've been paying $10 on it ever since. We mentioned this bill to our lawyer and told him that we're paying on it. Both my husband and I looked over the papers, but neither of us even thought about the fact that the lawyer didn't include that one on the paperwork. Come to think of it, I don't remember him asking any specifics about it. He had printed off our credit report and used that to fill in the information about our other creditors, but of course, this one isn't included in the credit report since it's just a local place. I remember when we told the lawyer about us owing my parents $3000, he told us that we have to treat all the creditors the same way, including my parents and that they'd have to be sent a letter also, just like the other ones are even though we intend to pay them back someday (right now I have no idea when, but we have good intentions, put it that way). If we had to include them, why didn't he put the medical group on there too. Is it because we only owe them $100? I hate to call him and mention this after he's already filed the papers, which I think he has, but then again, would it cause any kind of a problem in this process? I wish my husband and I would have realized earlier that it wasn't included in the filing papers!
