    County government job

    Hello,

I received a callback about a job i applied for with a county government where i live. The money is OK and with the hours i can continue my sales job part time. Question - I filed bankruptcy chapter 7 over a year ago (February 2006) and have rebuilt my credit -Ficos around 620 on each, Hooters - 1600.00 - New Car, refinance house, etc.... could this be a problem with my hiring process?

The job is with department of assessments and taxation. And i drive around and appraise properties for them. And I may even be able to schedule a week off of work until i go through the process. Any thoughts???

It's against the law to discriminate against someone who has filed bankruptcy if bk is the sole reason for denial....however, even if the bk is the only reason you aren't hired, a savvy company just makes up an acceptable reason to not hire you and tells you that's why you weren't hired. You won't know how your company deals with a bk with a good financial record afterwards until you go through the hiring process. This sounds like a good job - go for it! Keep us posted about what happens, ok?

Typically, jobs that BK will cause problems with in the Finance field are positions involving cash and the handling of cash.

Physically handling cash. Transfers of cash to and from Departments like a Comptroller. A person who writes up or authorized Purchase Orders. That sort of thing.

Since the job doesn't involve you handling cash in any way, your BK shouldn't matter.

After BK discharged, there will be no problem.
