Can someone tell me about the credit counseling before filing?

My attorney gave me a card for a place that does it as a combination of online followed by a 15 min or so phone call.
He said the whole thing is basically a joke, they just do the minimum they have to do to get you your certificate, it's totally just a silly formality.

Sounds like 6ftladycop's was actually worthwhile, but my attorney was saying it's just a formality and is super easy.

Maybe I'll try that one if it's approved by my state...
