Probably a dumb question about Pacer

Do you have to join? Won't my attorney be notified when the case is discharged? Why pay for the service?

I'm not really anticipating any problems. We are $10K below the median household income for the state (at least we were for the last 6 months, my husband just started a new job and his job would put us about $100 over the median income, but I don't think that will matter), we have no assetts, will be surrendering the house, haven't used any credit cards in over a year and a half so I think it's doubtful that anyone has a credible objection, etc. Our case seems pretty cut and dry to me... but maybe I am overly optimistic.

Anyway, is there anyone who did NOT join pacer?

Do you think it is a good idea to pay for one of the services that sends you updated credit reports every quarter after discharge so you can be sure all the credit agencies are reporting correctly?

I cant speak for anyone else but, I like it, it gives me peace of mind to know I can check it whenever I want and not constantly have to call the attorney, I thinks its worth it ....I would say use it, you may catch something the attorney left out or anything, But again, for 8cents a page its well worth the peace of mind for me...

You don't have to pay to join PACER. Registration is free. It's looking at cases that costs money.

If you keep your usage to below $10, you'll theoretically never get a bill from PACER. They bill quarterly for charges in excess of $10.

Once you look over your case, all you have to do is watch the "Last Date" of posting. If that doesn't change, no need to look. And checking for a change in the last date of posting doesn't cost a thing.

I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.
