    Expenses Question

My apologies- I've looked for this answer, but come up a bit short in finding it.

When you fill out your schedule of expenses, it is based on gross or net? In other words, I live in CA and make 37K a year. I'm single and fall under the median by a safe chunk.

However to get by, I've been claiming higher exemptions on my taxes than I should(and paying at the end of the year). It's caught up with me and I need to bring them back down to zero.

So my two paychecks during the month come to about 3K gross, but when all is said and done, I'll net just a notch above 1100 per for a total of 2200 or so. Will my expenses be out of 2200 or the phantom 3000?

Thanks. I'm just starting along this road and it's leading to more than a few sleeplessness nights.

The expenses you claim on your bankruptcy forms are not related to what you claim on your tax forms.

Income for the Means Test is gross, not net.

Living expenses are supported by your net pay. You can't spend money that's being taken out for taxes, insurance, etc. before you can spend it for living expenses.

If you are filing Ch 7, you can list what your expenses really are. Go back through bills, checkbook, etc and figure it out. Here's a good expense calculator to get you started - http://www.goainc.com/fraley/calcula...alculator.html .

Good luck - keep asking questions - we'll help you as much as we can.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.
