I recently retired and I am finding out that I got myself in some trouble
with several things. I have two overdrawn bank accounts that I cannot get caught up on plus a business that I am $1700.00 in the whole on. I have some unresolved credit cards that are in the hands of collection agencys. Everything is unsecured debts and I am not in the whole more than about 7000.00 but there is no way to get caught up. The worry is working on my health and I need to be home with my husband more than I need to find another job because of his health. I cannot afford an attourney. Can I do this on my own and will it include the bank shortages???

These are supposed to be your golden years. I think that if you have a pretty simple case, no assets, you should have no problem filing on your own. I do believe you can include any monies owed on bank over-drafts. You might not be able to do business with those banks for a long time, but there are many banks to choose from, so that's not such a big deal. If you have a great deal of assets...house, property, cars, etc., it might get more difficult for you to keep everything. You only have 7 grand in debt, and if you have many assets, the trustee will surely make you sell some of them to pay back you debt. You can always have a free consultation with an attorney. Based on what he or she says, you should be able to know if you should file on your own or not.
