OK, I think I'm ready. Atty. told me to also take a copy of our bank balance Friday. I ran today and got a money order for my house payment. I'm still trying to figure out how to juggle the kids. DH will be with me. We're far below median, so that won't be an issue. We did have a business we closed, so hopefully that will go ok. After 3 years in the negative, it doesn't take a genius to figure out what needed to be done. DH only made a little over $6000 during 2006 and 2007 combined.

You are going to do great!!
Just think of the relief you will feel when it is all over. Just keep telling yourself "its almost over".
This is the moment that we all wait for and you will be ALL DONE after tomorrow.

This will most likely be the only thing you have left to do for your BK.

Good luck to you and make sure you post how everything went!!!

I think you're going to do just great. The fact that you are below median really helps. It isn't a pleasant experience, but the one thing that keeps me going is to look at my kids and imagine how much brighter their future will be. Good luck!

Hi back in the thread there was mention of bringing your SS card - do you have to bring this or will you Birth Cerficate do? I'm not sure if I have my original SS card. If not I guess I should go to my local office and sign up for one?

This board is great I get so much help just reading what all of you share by your experience.

We had our DLs with pictures, the S.S. cards, and our marriage license because I don't use my husband's last name. I am not sure about birth certificates. If memory serves me right, the lady that was trying to do her BK herself and did not have her ID with her correct, current name on it (there had been a divorce) had her birth certificate with her. But in that every piece of ID that she produced did not have her current, correct name on it, she had to start over.

On Birth certificates, BTW, I am told that when you apply for passports, you must supply a CERTIFIED BC from the Bureau of Vital Statistics in the state in which you were born. If you try to do business with the birth certificate that is issued by the hospital--the one with the cute little feet prints--that won't do.

I don't know why; it worked when we got the marriage license.......

Yes, you will need a copy of your SS card to show the trustee during your 341 - your birth certificate won't do. Get started getting a new copy of your card at your local SS office immediately.

You also need to bring along some type of photo ID like your driver's license. Some trustees require even more than this - your lawyer (if you have one) can tell you what to bring. If you don't have a lawyer, call the court or your trustee's office and ask politely.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

AngelinaCat - When we got our passports, we had to supply the original BC.

My attorney said I needed to bring SS card, DL or Mil. ID, plus bank statement, POA, and copy of last financial counseling cert.

A Passport can be used in place of the DL but not the SSN, you can go to your local Social Security office and request a duplicate card. There is a minor fee involved like 5 or 10 dollars I think. Take a payroll check stub and/or bill to prove who you are.

Try to get the SS card but if you don't have it, it may not be the end of the workd, ask your attorney about it.
At our meetings there was one person who did not have it and the attorney looked through some paperwork, found some kind of official paper with the number on it and the Trustee accepted that. Not sure all would, though... So try to get the SS card. BUT if you can't, I think they would just conduct the meeting and hold off on discharge until you can provide it. But again, all Trustees are different, so who knows?

Oh, and lillaimof2kids, don't worry, your 341 will be very easy. Trustees are usually not bad, they just are there to ask the standard questions and get the standard answers, just going through the motions. Chances are very good that everything will go very easy and it'll be over before you know it. So try to not worry. Anyway, what good does worrying do?

Just be prepared with your documents and answer the simple questions, no one is likely to grill you. You'll be fine. Relax.

OK, I'm back from my 341, I was the 3rd one called up. Everything went OK, but I was getting pretty worried. The trustee kept ?ing the land we purchased 10 yrs. ago behind our house. We had the land attached to our property then. So instead of having 2 seperate pieces of land next to each other, it's considered - or should be - all one. I finally had to tell him no dwelling can be put on the land and there's no access to the land, he just glared at me. Then he started asking about all the balances on the bus. loans and their values. OMG I don't remember those details anymore. So I made sure I added "I think" in front of every number I gave him. He didn't understand what a sanitation company is, so I had to tell him "trash pickup" but I still don't think he understook (as if it matters what "kind" of business we closed). He ?ed us for about 15+ minutes. He never did say anything about our stimulous check, so hopefully that means we get to keep it.

As for the SS card, there was a woman who didn't bring her's. Her atty was pissed off!!! They had an insurance card with her SS on it, but the atty. didn't think that would work. I didn't get to stay long enough to see what happened. They did ask specifically for a "photo ID".
