This is just a "been there done that" post. If it makes you feel any better, we had several credit cards etc that we stopped paying on in 2003 and kept getting those letters & calls from different collection agencies. Fast forward to May 08...we just now filed and had yet to actually have any sort of legal action taken against us for any credit cards.
It will hurt your credit to not pay for an extended amount of time, but right now, I wouldn't say getting any credit would be at the top of your list w/ that many cards. Once we filed and cleaned up our credit reports, our scores starting jumping up at a good rate of speed. It's been just over a month, and they have gone up about 100 pts.
