    So now that we have filed can they

    call us anymore. My 2nd mortgage called me today and my hubby in work. Is that allowed? I have a docket number. What do I say to them? And how long after you file shold the calls stop?

    Yes they should no longer call you. However, when did you file. To be fair, you have to give the USPS time to get them a letter out. Telling them your docket number should be adiquate but if you just filed, and they do not know, it isn't their fault. 'Hub

        It usually takes 2-3 weeks for the bk notice to wind its way through the financial layers of larger companies and collection agencies so that the collections arm gets the notice that you filed and they can't call any more.

        If a creditor calls the first few weeks after filing, immediately tell them you filed and give them your case number. That's all the information you have to give and it's the last you should hear from them. If any creditor continues to call, let your lawyer know they are violating the automatic stay and get the attempts documented.

        And how long after you file shold the calls stop?
        Most will stop within two weeks after filing. After a month, your phone and mailbox should be completely and blessedly silent.
