    Emergency surgery

We were suppose to file last Tuesday after my laprascopic surgery. Things didn't go as planned, had to stay and have an emergency hysto. Then my little boy was admitted Tuesday night with an intestinal virus. Anyways, can we discharge all of those medical bills since we haven't filed yet. We have to call lawyer Monday to get in this week. I mean we had some that were already included, our insurance is ok but I know we will have to pay a lot. If they won't be discharged we are going to be right back were we were! thanks for any info

Dogbone, I hope you are ok now from your surgery. I am sorry to hear you had to have a emergency hysto, but glad you are recovering now. I hope your son is ok too. Things will get better.

If you have not filed yet, you can add all outstanding bills (even if they are current) to the petition up to the date of filing. You may want to wait to see what additional charges come in from the hospital emergencies and the surgery. There are always additional charges that you may not be aware of with medical procedures. Speak to your attorney about the medical issues and see if he needs to see the actual invoice because sometimes it takes several weeks, even months, to get the billing and/or the EOB from your insurance company.

You will have to see what your insurance covers for the surgery and admittances. Depending on your Plan/coverage, you may only have to pay a copayment for the admission and nothing else or have a deductible only to meet. As Starting Over stated, it can take several weeks before that information is processed by your insurance company as they need to have the information from the hospital and, of course, you will also have follow-up visits in addition to this. You need to discuss the whole thing with your attorney cause this could take a while.
