Post Filing: Why Do I Get Debt Relief Spam Mail?

We are all getting the car loan offers and crappy cc offers. The thing that is baffling me is all the "debt relief" spam mail.

The one I got today is from "Debt Relief Center" and offers a faux (but realistic-looking) check for over $26k. The fine print outs DRC as a debt settlement company.

What is the point of these types of mailings?

Do they figure our bk will be dismissed? What use do they think we would have for their services while in the midst of bk?

    I don't get it.

maybe they don't bother to check bk filings. or maybe they want you to deposit that check and then be indebted to them.

besides, who cares? just trash them. or rather, shred them.

You are on mailing lists, that's all, due to your former bad debt/unpaid debt situation prior to BK. Lists get sold and the volume will eventually die down.

The fine print leads me to believe they are targeting these mailings to folks in bk.
"Pre-Selection based from date obtained by public data sources and records."

We didn't get these before and now we get quite a few. I am just curious what they hope to get out of this?

The "check" isn't really a check. It looks just like one, but it's not. LOL.

Flamingo: Could be. We had high debt to credit available prior to bk.

They're working based off out-dated information? Is that your guess?

If you really want to have some fun with it, get those postage paid return envelopes, fill them up, and mail them back. Send them back all of their stuff plus whatever else you can fit in the envelope.
