The IRS usually puts their talented in the field for audits and leaves those without a clue in the office to let the computer do their work. Now I am not saying all the agents in the field has their elevator going to the top floor because they have some idiots completing audits and they do have a few with a full deck of cards in the office. This is just a rule of thumb. Best of luck to you Amy!

I wrote out a check, and mailed it back with all the paperwork that showed it had been paid and how many times they tried to collect again. I told them to please keep my new check so someone could get it right for me. They kept it.. and I never heard another word. To this day I don't know what was going on.. but I was glad to have it over with.

Yea I agree... I have to admit it wasn't as stressful as the letter I got from them a few years ago that said I owed them 10,000 ... and that was their mistake too. Course, I work for the gov't.... so.... I know what kind of people/systems they are dealing with.

I'll have to actually print it out to see what the heck they are saying... I'm not sure how it could be different because I'm sure I only had one W-2 from 2007. Maybe I transposed a number or something....

So, if I have to pay them 393 dollars... not too bad. At least I can relax knowing its nothing terrible.
that's crazy that we both received a letter from them concerning our 2007 taxes! lol! Check back over everything tho because they were also saying we did our taxes wrong when in fact, it was their mistake. Makes me wonder if they just randomly send out "You Owe" letters to see who they can get to fall for it $393 was a lot less than what they said we owed (considering they tried saying dh didn't pay in ANY state & local tax for the whole yr from his employers withholdings -- oh plus the outrageous amount of interest they said we now owe them!). Sure, they are only human, but come on they are suppose to know what they are doing... seems a little ridiculous to be making such mistakes IMO.

Take it from someone dealing with serious IRS problems.....the IRS ALWAYS sends "we want money" letters certified. It's pbobably something minor like they need documentation or something.

So, now I'm freaking out wondering what the hell is in that envelope. Getting a letter from the IRS is generally never a good thing. I requested a scan of the contents, but it won't be done till sometime tomorrow probably.

So........ now I get to sit here worrying about it. Anybody get any IRS letters lately? Any standard correspondance about a tax break or a tax credit or something? Does bankruptcy trigger something with the IRS?

I had no back tax issues or anything and did not have them as a creditor at all.

Any ideas? Or am I getting an audit letter???

Apparently everyone and their uncle is suddenly getting IRS letters. I even heard of a guy whose daughter is being asked for her 1040 from 2007

    She is 6 years old.

One of the stupidest leters I ever received fromt he IRS was this:

    Dear DMC,

This letter is to let you know that in your 2006 filing, you mistated the depreciation value of one computer. Note that this mistake does not change the material findings of the tax return and does not affect your tax in any way.

Please do not send us any money.

    Regards,

    IRS.

    Our Govt money at work!

Ok thank you guys...that makes me feel a little better that this letter didn't come certified!!!

Its probably something stupid with them saying I owe them money or I did something wrong.

The only thing I can think of is it could be about my moving expenses that I deducted this year.... but who knows....still waiting for my scan.

I have been audited before too. Seems like any time it's bad news from the IRS it always comes certified.
