New Job, Background & Credit Check Pre BK

My financial services company is shutting down so I'm looking for a new place to hang my hat. Potential employers will run a background & credit check. I've never had a late payment before these past 3 months... but I've now stopped paying everyone in anticipation of filing.
At what stage of the process should I disclose my circumstances and credit situation, or don't bring it up at all.... and wait for them to ask if concerned?

Financial Services companies usually will run a credit check as part of a pre-employment background check.

I would assume that they are going to see your financial situation and based on that assumption you can decide when the best time to tell them is. In my opinion it is always better to be up front about your credit with employers. I used to work on Wall Street and I was always up front about anything on my credit report because I knew that they were going to check it anyway.
You can't take a picture of this. It's already gone. ~~Nate, Six Feet Under

Usually during the hiring process the credit and background check is run after your interview. Most times as we all know, resumes are submitted to potential employers and if the employer is interested in your resume, will call you in for an interview or even first do a phone interview. Sometimes they will have you fill out an application before the interview. Once they have your signature on an application, whether before or after the interview, that is when you give them permission to run those checks. So you will have to determine by your own experience with a potential employer how to handle your disclosure. What they will see will be a big recent change in your credit habits until you file and that will be a red flag to them. Also, some banks/financial companies have a potential employee also fill out a pre-interview financial survey in which one has to list all their debts, amounts and names of creditors. It all depends what you encounter but realize your credit situation as it stands now will probably be a factor and be prepared to honestly explain once they have your signature and SS# to run that check. It's a tough situation because you are dealing with possible company policy and management decisions but showing you have an extreme interest in the position and your past excellent past credit history should be a plus for you.

I have always been hired first and then the first day of work they make me fill out an application. I was hired based on info in my resume only.

In that case which is not that common anymore especially in big business or the financial sector, they will still do any background checks if you agreed to that when you signed your application and provide your SS# (usually indicated in the last paragraph before signing) and if you are an at will employee and they don't like what they see when the reports come back, they can let you go at any time for any reason. There really is no guarantee to the process so it is always best to research any prospective employer as to their hiring practices even being applying so one knows what they are dealing with when they apply. Many employers indicate their hiring qualifications and requirements (and also if they will do credit/background checks) on their company websites in a link supplied for hiring or prospective employees.

nc73's experience is related to a customer service position I would assume. As a salesperson I was was recruited, interviewed, and references checked then offered the job before the background check. I can only assume that my recent credit history will cause them pause.
I just ran my credit report. From 750 to 500 in 2 months. Tip: don't run your credit report pre bk if you don't need to, it's depressing.

I'm very nervous about this one as well. My career was banking and finance. Now since I'm looking for a new job I'm thinking with the BK my career may be blown as well. Might have to rebound back with a new career path. I'm just thankful I'm still young at this point.
