When will utilities open new account?

I included past due utilities (our electric account and water account) in our bankruptcy (filed pro se).

I filed on the 15th of Dec. and I know I have a 20 day stay from any disconnections which will put he at Jan 5th.

I thought that the utility companies were supposed to open up new accounts and as long as those new accounts are current that they cannot disconnect.

We have about $700 past due from our electric I just got a new bill from the same account for $207. I am planning on paying the $207 for our current charges but I don't have to pay the past due $700 because I included it in bankruptcy correct?

They usually create the new account when they receive notice of the Bankruptcy.

I would contact the electric company and find if they created a new account or not. Do not pay on the old bill. Make sure they started a new one!

Be aware, that they may demand a (new) deposit.
