Creditor after discharge

I have a credit colletor calling me asking for payment on a debt that was listed on my paper work but happened years before I filed. When they call I tell them that debt is covered under my bankruptcy and they are like "nobody told us" I mentioned how it was odd they never called until AFTER my stay was lifted. What should I do?

first give them your docket number and date of discharge. then tell them if they do not stop you file a complaint against them with both the ftc and file a motion with bk court.

that should fix them! if not i'll talk to them..

Send a copy of your discharge order and a letter stating that you will file a complaint, as tobee suggested, if they do not leave you alone. Then have that letter certified with return receipt.

We had this happen with a couple of our creditors, and that is how we handled it.

so agree...with the certified mail. i know many people think it's a waste of money, however, i for one, have a file drawer with two full folders of certified mail...just for my proof..if someday need be...and one never knows today what to expect tomorrow.

You MUST have that signature card in hand whenever you dispute something like this. It is incontestable proof. I have a huge fat notebook with all of our filings, and the green cards AND post office receipts in page protectors. I am obsessive-compulsive that way...

me too...almost to the point it's down right embarrassing! but i know this...just ask me whom and when and how they were contacted and i can get you that piece of paper signed receipt in a ny minute!

Tell them to pound sand. In fact, get their name/address and put that in writing to them - certified, return receipt like mentioned. They are attempting to collect on a debt that is uncollectable ---- very simple --------- These scumbags are trying to get your money any way they can including lieing.

Sue them!
