    Pay Rent Ahead?

Planning to file Chapter 7 toward the end of the month. My state only allows $300 in cash on hand or bank accounts.

Anyone know if the trustee would object to my paying my April rent here in March?

Paying my rent ahead would help me get down to $300 cash for a late March filing then use my April payroll to rebuild some savings. My intent is not to cheat the system - just want to provide for my own wellfare.

My credit cards have all been canceled due to defaults so Murphy's Law would apply. You know as soon as I empty my bank account, something would happen like needing a car repair.

I don't see a problem with paying April's rent in March. Now, if you were paying several months rent ahead, you would run into a problem.

As an aside, you will want to pay it with either cash or a money order. The Trustee doesn't care about outstanding checks at the time of filing.

i agree with helpme also....however, make CERTAIN you get a receipt from the landlord on your payment....with the date...the month the amount pays for etc....just in case to protect yourself.

we paid a few things in advance....like the phone, we put some extra on the electric bill...as well as paid the town in advance for water, sewer...etc. and, we did it by check...the trustee never questioned it. but every trustee is different.

In my state, a filer can only be ahead by one month concerning rent, insurance, etc.

Well, it's mid March, I do not think it would be considered unreasonable to pay ahead. It really wouldn't even be considered a month ahead. I don't think it would really be a flag either.
I may be smarter than an attorney, but I'm not one. No legal advice here, people.
