What is M.R.S. and associates?

I got discharged but am now getting calls from this company. I called their 800 number and it said if you are sears, dial X, Capital One, dial XX, ect. So can credit card companies harrass you after you are discharged? I got my discharge papers 2 weeks ago. Does this crap start all over again???!!!!!!

Straight from the MRS Associates, Inc. website at http://www.mrsassociates.com/ :
"MRS ASSOCIATES is a nationally licensed full-service account receivables management company that specializes in financial and commercial portfolios - bank and retail credit card programs, consumer loans, auto deficiencies and commercial collection as well as government, taxation and educational debts."

In other words, if MRS Associates was not one of your creditors before you filed, they probably bought one of your old debts from one of your creditors. Although they may not realize they bought already discharged debt because they weren't notified, they are still not allowed to attempt collection on any debt discharged by bankruptcy (exception: defaulted student loans because it's very unlikely for them to be discharged).

If you filed Ch 7 with a lawyer, have your lawyer send them a "no contact or we will sue you" letter. If you filed pro se (without a lawyer), then there's a good "cease and desist" letter to send in the folder Sample Letters and Form at the very bottom of the forum list. Some people recommend sending them a copy of your Ch7 discharge. Good luck, hope the calls stop soon.
