    Creditor called my employer

This is not specific to bankruptcy, but I've got a former landlord who was successful in getting a garnishment order against me. He was unhappy that my company was taking longer than he wanted to enact the garnishment, so he called my HR department and got an phone audience with the HR manager and the payroll coordinator. During the conversation he revealed details about the nature of the debt owed, as well as history regarding interactions he has had with me.

If that legal? I know if he were a collection agency he would not be able to do that, but as the actual creditor, does he have the right to call my employer and discuss the details of my debts to him?

Thanks in advance if you can help me, the guy has been a massive PITA and seems determined to extract as much pain from me as possible over a disputed month's worth of rent.

A judgment is a public record. I doubt he violated any privacy laws.

I don't know why people assume their financial lives are subject to some sort of privacy, or that people cannot call your employer and discuss factual circumstances. Honestly, once you default, privacy goes out the window.

In any event, so long as what he told them was true (or at least arguably true), there is not much you can do (FYI, even a collection agency could have called since the call is pretexted on following-up with the garnishment).

HHM is correct. If what he stated was not true to your employer or any other person, then you have a case. Why do you think celebrities sue the major tabloids all the time?
