Are these people nuts? I feel like they have crossed the line. They called one of our neighbor's last week asking them to give us a message to call "about an application". It has to do with an outstanding student loan, for which nobody has agreed to work with us reasonably. :/

They are a low life debt collector.
Send them a cease and desist letter.filed chapter 13..confirmed...converted to chapter 7...DISCHARGED! -
GC has been around for a long time. I would first request a verification of the debt. In the same letter you can request that all telephone communications are to cease.
In the case of your student loan, is this a private student loan? I don't think GC collects on federal guaranteed student loans. Private student loans are a real scourge. I would not expect too much relief from the collection agencies.

Ah yes, I've had these people call neighbors and relatives about me. Send them a good old cease and desist letter and they will go away.The world's simplest C & D Letter:
"I demand that you cease and desist from any communication with me."
Notice that I never actually mention or acknowledge the debt in my letter.Comment
