    I thought if you filed bankruptcy and the debt was discharged, there is no tax consequence? If the debt was never reaffirmed, wouldn't it be considered discharged in bankruptcy?

      Yes. The tax issue only arises if the OP settles the 2nd before filing BK.

      $143,000 in debt discharged for $36,500, including attorneys fees. Money well spent!
