    My understanding is my insurance sends him a check for $2k and that's the end of it. The injured party apparently has decent medical insurance, so hopefully the 2k will help with any copayments or out of pocket expenses.

    I truly hope this is the end of things.
    well hopefully along with that check for 2k there will be a release. actually footballfan, i would have them sign one now, while the check is on it's way. you can make up a release that just says by acceptance of this payment this person will persue no further action etc.
