Discharged after 16mos of pure hell

I went pro se. Not for the faint of heart. Especially for a homeowner in Virginia who files a Chapter 13. After nearing stealing my house, I paid the trustee $45K after only 4 mos into a 5 year plan. You ask "how did you do that, when you weren't into your payment plan the standard 36mos??". Well, fortunately greed is the universal answer. The trustee wanted the lump sum instead of waiting 5 uncertain years for it. On top of that, I managed to preserve about $50-$100K of my home equity as well....now, to get out of this horrible state Virginia in the next 12 mos. That is my next goal. Move south, get a less expensive home and relax....If you need any advice or want to do an early refi buy-out, email me and I can give you some tips....

Fiats, I'm glad for your sake you found a way out. And for anyone else who thinks, "I can file Ch 13 without a lawyer and save the money", Fiats just gave you the best reason why that's a very bad idea. He barely survived filing Ch 13 pro se under the simpler old law and ended up losing his house in the process. These days under the much more complex new bk law that went into effect a year ago, having a good bankruptcy lawyer to help you file Ch 13 has become a necessity.
