Meeting with my first lawyer today!

Well, I think I'm ready...and should have everything I need. I leave for the appointment in about an hour. Even though I'm nervous, it feels good to be taking the first step in this whole process.

CONGRATS!!! I am not too far ahead of you. I do have to say that I was nervous, embarrassed, and overwhelmed right before I went in. But, if you have a good atty, those feelings quickly subside and you realize that they can help.

Even though I just finished all the paperwork, which was daunting, I am now able to sleep at night. As everyone can contest, it won't be an easy process, but it will be worth it. Once again, Congrats on taking the first step.

I felt a wave of relief after I finally found a good lawyer. She was straightforward and reassuring. Now I just need to finish up the few things she still needs to file my case, and I can start the process.

I just got back from my first meeting with a lawyer--let me tell you, it feels so much better to have done it! He had to cut our meeting a little short because there had been a problem with the scheduling, but he answered all our questions and was very reassuring. Hubby and I are going back in Monday to (hopefully) get the ball rolling. Congrats on taking the first step, and here's hoping everything goes smoothly for you!

Well, the meeting went very well. Still need to get the assistant a few more things. Went over the numbers. Sounds very confident that I can file chapter 7 without any problems. We'll start the paperwork as soon as I can come up with $1500 and the filing fee. I was anxious on the way to the appointment but at the appointment I felt much better. For the first time in months I feel somewhat in control of my finanical situation.

Thanks for all the support! The lawyer was very impressed with my knowledge of what the process was....all because of this board!

I'm so glad to hear you met with an attorney! You sound so much better! For me, it was a BIG relief after I left my attorney's office. A big weight lifted off my shoulders. Did you decide on your 1st attorney/meeting?

Thanks Liz...yeah, I think I am going to go with him. I spent most of the time with his assistant who I liked a lot as well. The lawyer is also a trustee and a lot of experience. Sounded confident that a chapter 7 would be fine and things would go smoothly.

I just don't think I have it in me to keep going through the process with different lawyers...especially since I feel comfortable with Halverson.

See? When we advised you to talk to a lawyer we knew what we were talkin' about! :-) Wouldn't pull your leg, that's for sure! Now all the anxiety of the past several weeks is all behind you and you didn't have to get all worked up in the first place as some of us tried to tell you! Glad you feel much better...

I'm glad you "clicked" with your 1st lawyer, we did too. Well actually, his girlfriend, who is also a bk lawyer across the hall. The attorney we were suppose to meet with got tied up with a case and sent her instead...she was great and she'll be working on our case with him! Of course I'm a worry-wart and thinking, could-of, would-have, should-have, what if they break up, etc???? But they both seem to know what they are doing...honestly, if we would have meet him first, I think I would have set up a few more attorney interviews...he's not really that personable, you know?

Congrats Brook on the first step (I hired the first lawyer I spoke to as well , do they offer payments at that office? Such as a retaining fee then so much a month til you have them paid? They can't file til fully paid though )
