BK Curse Strikes!

I remember reading a thread earlier about a BK curse, but I couldnt find it. Anyways, I retained my lawyer yesterday and woke up this morning to find my wife's car with two flat tires!!!!!!!!

The lawyer instructed us to purchase a new car, I think I ran over something while going through car lots last night.

I appreciate this thread and the humor and reality behind it. But I wonder if we're looking at this incorrectly. I am talking to myself as much as to anyone.

Take my dad--the guy is still more financially savvy and organized at 88 and with Parkinson's than I am at 46. (Yes, he would be puzzled about me facing bk). My brother and I oversee his finances these days and he's constantly querying us about this possible expense and that one). In other words, he thinks about the likely ("unexpected") expenses in the next year or so. He's never worried about his immediate bills. He has those covered. He's always thinking about the longer-term stuff.

I am not talking about creating an emergency fund! Yes, my dad did that as well. But an emergency fund, as I see it, is for layoffs, true unpredictable crises. I'm talking about the habit of realizing that items that now work fine may stop at any time.

I wonder if there is a thing among folks who are facing BK where we pretend away/ignore those predictable (though sporadic) expenses because they're not in front of us. And so we have to borrow and use credit ... and the trouble mounts ...In other words, when I do my budget each month, I need to realize that the monthly expenses in front of me are only PART of the expenses I'm facing. The monthly bills are probably only 80 percent (maybe lower) of the real bills I'll face throughout the year.

We have to prorate expenses (happily so!) when filling out our expenses for Chapter 7's ... We also need to prorate these in our monthly budgets. Again, I'm thinking out loud for myself here. No criticism or dismissal intended.

By the way...I had a flat last week, so let's just get together, Reddrocket and Flamingo, and call it three.

Id say phillymanhere is accurate. I just turned 28 and I was a spoiled child (still am sometimes!), even though I have been in the real world close to 8 years now counting after college, I still have plenty to learn! So lets call it three and call it a day. I took care of my flats. It cost me a total of $14.48 to have them repaired. Thankfully that was all. It was nice to find out that my roadside emergency service actually pays for new tires up to $250.00. I have had 3 flat tires in the three years, two of which I had to buy them. Wish I would have known they were covered then!

That's the beauty of getting a fresh start, isn't it? That we all get another chance to learn from our (and each others') mistakes, and get it right (or at least better!) this time.

I thought of the same thing myself today. Although neither of us has actually filed yet, my husband's truck quit yesterday and he got hit with a $1,400 repair bill this afternoon. He had enough to pay for it but now he has *nothing* left to live on for the next two weeks.

Same here, after I read this 'thread' I was doing some cleaning and moved the fridge. I notice the fridge had burned the floor underneath it!!! Great, just what I need (with no money) is to buy another fridge!

I have Allstate (totally seperate from the insurance company) and paid $75/year, but I went to cancel it this year (budget trimming) and they lowered it to $40!!! So haggle with whoever you decide to go with!

My roadside assistance is through Allstate. I pay $103.00 a month for car insurance, home insurance, and roadside assistance. The roadside assistance started out at $11 and some change/month 2 years ago, now its $13 and some change.

Seriously I thought a real BK curse hit you like the Us Trustee filing a motion on day 59 to extend another 60 days.

I would take 4 flats before that curse.

Actually, we DO have a VERY REAL problem. This ******* would like to criminalize us if he could. Think cyberstalking. He is the major reason for our BK just defending against his frivolous lawsuits, and those of his minions.
