"Post-Bankruptcy Charge" On My Cell Phone Bill

I just received my cell phone bill for August, and there is a "post-bankruptcy charge" of $14.98 on it. Verizon Wireless, FWIW.

Has anybody ever heard of such a charge - and more important - is it recurring? Because if it is, it's goodbye Verizon and hello pay-as-you-go.

YOU ARE KIDDING???? That was listed that way? That is tantemount to liable or defamation. I would call them and ask it be reversed and if it is recurrent, purchase a boost phone. Pre paid with radio feature. No bills. 'Hub

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.

I am not kidding - I wish I was! If there were a way to post a copy of the bill to this forum, I would - for purposes of illustration.

We have Verizon as well. About a month after we filed I got a text message on my phone saying that my address had been changed. I called them to see what was up and they said they got my bk notice and that my account had been turned over to their bk dept. I called that department and they said that they can't see our petition so they didn't know what we were filing on and that they needed to know if we wanted to continue with our contract or not. We were current on our bill with them and so far that has been the end of the story. I am going to have to watch out for the bills now and look for the possible mystery charge.

That's awful and maybe not lawful! (Hey-I'm a poet and don't know it).

Were they listed as one of your creditors?

I'll am very interested to see what you find out, kornellred. Out of curiosity, were you current on your bill prior to filing and until you were discharged?

I always was, and currently am, current on my payments to Verizon Wireless. I did not list them as a creditor. They are not a lending institution and they do not extend credit as far as I know. I have no idea what they are up to. All I know is that they are going to lose me as a customer if that charge appears again.

They'd lose me as a customer NOW if they pulled that crap.

Furthermore, I would question if it is even legal to charge someone any type of fee because of a bankruptcy that they were not a party to. I think we need a super guru here...HHM? Pretty Please? With sugar on top?

If you did not include Verizon for anything in your BK and you reviewed all your paperwork that you signed when you obtained your Verizon contract for your cell phone and nothing is listed as to them assessing a "charge" on your bill for certain reasons, you need to get on the phone with their Customer Service Dept. and find out where that charge came from. Unless there is some sort of agreement that you signed allowing them to places charges on your cell phone for certain occurring circumstances or you did not receive any notification prior to the charge that that charge would be listed on your bill, that charge could be illegal. I would definately check into it further.

We had Verizon during our BK and we never had anything like that occur.

We also had Verizon during our bankruptcy and were never charged a bankruptcy. Just an FYI, watch out for those more than $200 fees for canceling before your agreement is up.

I wonder if there is a difference in ch 13 v ch 7 with this. I am ch 13 and I don't think I was charged anything, but I will go back and look. On another note with Verizon....a few weeks ago my dh went there to look at new phones because his got wet. They had our account on the screen. Well, someone else came up to pay on their account and the worker paid it on our account. When I got my bill I called and they said there was nothing that could be done...I got lucky! Well, it saved me $45.90 LOL I feel bad for the other person when they get their bill and wonder why they have a double payment and late fees.
