    Bankruptcy junk mail

    It's already started!
"You may have filed for b'ruptcy, but you can still BUY A NEW CAR!"
"Bankruptcy court requires financial education - get it FROM US"

    And on and on . . .

Oh well - I guess those companies need to make a living, too!

I am in the 2 month club right now but the only mailing I have received is from the same dealership. They mail me every single week trying to sucker me into a loan.

When you file BK, your information is public. There are places that obtain that information on a weekly, monthly or other periodic basis and send out the BK junk mail. It can occur anytime during your BK but is the heaviest once you are discharged. As soon as it is on the record your matter is discharged, a bigger quantity of mail could arrive, mostly trying to get you to refinance or buy a car. They know you are debt free or have extra cash available now and they want it. It's how they make money (it's business). We even received vacation brochures from area travel agents several weeks after our Chapter 13 discharge. Never did before even living here for 23 years. Just rip it up and trash it or toss in the recycle bin after removing your name and address.

I only received a few things after we filed and after discharge.

I have not received much, but I am on the opt out list. I think that helps a little. Also, I have just filed 9/30/08 and not discharged yet so that probably makes a difference.

It amazes me how little mail that we have received. I commented that it is almost boring to go get the mail now! Don't get me wrong... I will take that boredom any day!

We did receive a couple of letters about after filing classes... and one POSTCARD! The postcard said right on it, something to the effect of "You have filed for bankruptcy, and the court requires you to take a course... call us for your POST BANKRUPTCY class (in big letters.) Sheesh!
Filed 8/08 - Discharged 11/08! Not tracking FICO.
                  Pre-Bankruptcy Net Worth: -$72,000... Today's net worth: $142,000.
If your FICO score just went higher than your net worth, and you are happy about this, you might have a financial problem!
