I'm trying to determine what the best resources are for state specifice legal research re: bankruptcy. For example, how do you determine if your state or district allows ride-throughs or if your district strictly uses the means test to detemine your Chapter 13 payment (apparently some use Form 22C and others use Schedules I & J - I'm sure some may even use both)? Of course, I know a lawyer can answer such questions, but I'm fairly confident that there are some good legal researchers on this board, especially those clever pro-se filers.

Note: I'm not looking for the answers to my example questions, but how one can research them on their own.

I did not file pro se but have some tips...others can chime in with more experience or details.

Your state/district bankruptcy court should have a website (ours is accessible via our "state" website - link available to BK court). Our district website is chock full of information relating to our state and filings. If it does not, call the Clerk of Court for the District in which you plan to file and he/she can help you as to your own specific state and where to go for resources.

You can review other peoples filings as they are public record. Either at the court house or online as Flamingo stated. I read many other peoples filings in an effort to plan our BK. It was very helpful. Good luck!

Thanks for the responses so far. I have looked at my districts website. Unfortunately, there are only some published judicial opinions (I've read what was there, but not rall anything on point to what I'm looking for) and procedural info, nothing like what I'm looking for... As for viewing other cases, is that done thru Pacer (going to the courthouse isn't much of an option, as I work during those hours)? I haven't signed up for Pacer yet, as I was intimidated by the costs posted on other threads. Thanks again.
