Question where can you live in limbo

Hello, new to all this. I am about to file 7. I have been a homeowner for a long while. I will not be able to keep the house and am looking at an apartment lease. Of course on the lease is the question, have you ever filed bankruptcy. Do you officially answer yes here before you have debts discharged? I am not sure how long it will take them to foreclose on my house but I would rather not just sit here for free waiting to be tossed. Can you officially say you have no debt on an apartment application before your attorney says "all clear"? Sounds like complete discharge can be 4 to 6 months...............how do you go about settling into a new living quarters? Very very concerned what and when to move my kids. I would like to apply and get to it, but I am sure I wont be accepted until I can say I have filed and am discharged. Anybody with some renters experience please chime in

I can understand your desire to move out of your home, but take a moment and a deep breath...

Ask your lawyer when it would be advisable to move or not to move. Depending upon the state in which you reside and the number of foreclosures, you might end up being able to save a bit of money.

Take that money you will be paying for rent purposes and tuck it safely away because you may need first and last month's rent and a full security deposit. You will need to pay moving expenses and you will need to build an emergency fund.

If you have already filed and are a clean, clear Chapter 7, save what you can for as long as you can--it's yours to keep. Ask your attorney about this.
