Be aware that hotels take a hold for incidentals whether you're using a debit card or credit card! In most cases, the daily hold for incidentals can be from $20 to over $100 per night for incidentals.

If you're using a debit card, it's best to stay at hotels that are not full service. The full-service hotels charge a higher fee per night, because you can actually eat in the restaurants and participate in resort activities... by charging to your room. The most I've ever paid was $100/night at a resort for the hold.

Almost all national chains now have a sign at the front desk which tells debit card holders about the policy. It's only the debit card holders that complain because it's "real" money.
