I am not sure how I missed this thread, but I just saw it.
I started dating my fiance while I was in the middle of my bk. I was honest right from the start with him. (as soon as it made sense to tell him.) I disclosed the information as a natural part of revealing my personal "story". He didn't care at all.
I think it is important to be honest, but not to reveal too much personal info immediately (by immediately I mean first date, etc) until you see if you are going to get to know the person. That holds true about any info, not just your bk history.
As others have said, the right person will not care. We all have our pasts and we have all made mistakes in one area of life or another.
You can't take a picture of this. It's already gone. ~~Nate, Six Feet Under

Very good points, with my guy though part of his objection was I should have told him sooner. I was never clear on just when he meant by sooner or what I should have told him, because when we first met, there was nothing to tell, yet. I was simply robbing Peter to pay Paul, but wasn't in any trouble....my bills were being paid. BK was suggested to me by my brother when he found out that my sweety and I wanted me to move to Canada to be with him, so I thought, better to go with a clean slate (and it would take about a year for me to go anyway). It all kind of turned into a moot point anyway because the BK was just the catalyst.......sweety (grrrrr) decided he didn't want to wait after all. Whatever!!Originally posted by backtoschool View PostI am not sure how I missed this thread, but I just saw it.

Oregon...you are very lucky with your guy. I want some advise from you as to how to keep a relationship with someone who doesnt like to spend any money..not even on himself. I think filing BK is a good financial decision especially when we are in our 50's and 60's. We dont have much time to be paying back interest to the big bank corporations. They couldnt care less if we were having heart attacks over the stress. I feel so great knowing that I have $10,000 in the bank and my bills are being paid on time. It is not much but I filed just last June...before that, my money was going out of my accounts faster than it was going in and the main bills were paid late. A couple of times I forgot to pay my light bill and I came home to a dark house to get on the cell phone for hours trying to get my light back up...it was so humiliating.

That is so cool that you have $$'s in the bank. For me, just having $300. in checking that didn't need to be paid out (days ago) puts a smile on my face.Originally posted by HOMEBODY View PostOregon...you are very lucky with your guy. What worried me was that S.O. was going to monitor every .01 that i spend. (candles are my thing, so didn't want to get scrutinized wnenever i wanted to buy one)
We agreed (both ways) that unless it was a significant amt (more than $50) that it wasn't an issue. and didn't hear..should you really be buying that.
After being together 9 yrs he finally knows all my secrets.filed: 8/10 ...341:10/8/10 ... Discharged & Close: 12/9/10
