There needs to be some sort of nationwide campaign to get people to routinely give debt collectors bogus information when they call looking for someone else. Maybe then they would actually stop with the practice.Originally posted by tobee43 View Postyeah...they just grab a phone book and start now the list of names....one of our relatives was called and told them we are at sea for the rest of our lives and don't have a fax or computer so the are SOL...i really LOVE that cousin in law!Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer nor giving legal advice. i can tell you this...i have reported at least 10 to the FTC and they stopped...actually this is sort of funny.......these collection calls were not even ours...but it was karma i guess...
we moved out of state and got a new phone number....no one..and i mean NO ONE knew where we moved....we get a phone.......and apparently this guys phone number we got owned everyone and their mother and their mother's mother........we were getting calls day and night.....i explained you have the wrong number......b o a...chase, discover, citi bank...gmac....i mean this guy owned them ALL!!!!!!!!! well, these collectors did not believe me...we call the phone company and they say the phone wasn't used in 2 years...i'm like RIGHT.....
anyway...i finally took the calls nicely got their info...each creditor and went to the FTC site and reported each and everyone of them...and we have had no calls since..
for MR. Z....LOL!!! wow...really talk about karma...we owned all those people as well, but when they called us they got this phone number after 33 years has been disconnected.....
