I'm new to bankruptcy. It comes down to your situation and the choices you have. In my case at my age in my current situation, without filing I felt I'd be fighting until I was 6 feet under which to me would have been more painful than filing.

Nobody can tell you what you may or may not lose until we know what you have and how they fit under Ga.'s exemptions. Things like ERISA qualified retirement accounts like 401K's and IRA's are exempt from creditor seizure.
Bk is just a business decision. Do you think the powers that be at GM and Chrysler or all of the airlines that have filed bk or, Donald Trump when he filed a Chapter 11 for Trump Casinos was worried about diginity?
At the end of the day, we're all good capitalist and will proceed in a manner that reflects our best interest. Don't take bk personally-it's just business.
Most bk lawyers will give a free or lowcost initial consultation. Speak with a few and get all of your options explained.

Filing bankruptcy will probably less painful than the state that you're living in now. You will have exemptions for some of your personal items, so no, you won't lose everything.

As to your dignity, it sounds as if you don't have any to speak of now, so get over it, make that business decision, and reclaim your life. There is nothing wrong with following the laws provided by our founders and regaining your life and your dignity back.

No one can take your dignity. You must surrender that.......

Good luck, we're here, and welcome.

I agree with Frogger on this. BK is simply a business decision and you should treat every financial decision you make from here on out as such.

Hi---ronw---chances are that you will find a peace of mind that you
certainly don't have right now---and you'll stop looking over your
shoulder---thinking that every creditor that you owe may be around.

Welcome. As others have said, it's a buisness decision. Most folks here will tell you it's a big relief. I feel much better now that I am filed and waiting for discharge. I didn't lose anything I owned and feel so much better. Hopefully you will too.

                  Good luck!
