Helping us all to get through BK

I see from many posters how the support from the other forum members can help us weather the tough decisions. My eldest (just getting out on own) sent me $100 extra this month along with the regular amount for the share of cell phone family plan. No note, but a photocopy of two angels supporting each other, and this quote:

"We are, each of us, ANGELS with one wing and we can only fly by embracing one another."

It is the little gestures, at unexpected times, that make a parent smile. And, yes, feel pride.

That is so wonderful--what a sweetheart!

We have had a bit of trouble with our 16 year-old son this year, but things are looking up now. Last night he came in my room after he got home from taking his girlfriend home, bent down, and kissed me on my cheek. I was really tired and had gone to bed early.

Yes, it is the little things that aren't really so little. Sure, my credit scores stink right now, but my children and husband know that I love them and I know they love me.

What a lovely gesture from your sweet children, Bobby's Girl and Jane!

Our 22-year-old is just finishing her massage therapist certification program and is living at home to save money. She has been a godsend - always has a sympathetic ear to lend and a hug when I need it most, plus she helps with the cooking and cleaning too! (And let's not mention the wonderfulness of having a live-in massage therapist willing to massage on request! LOL!) She says she's learning a valuable lesson about money management watching us struggle through the past years - gives me hope she will be a much better money manager than we have been.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

                    Encouragement

Well thie is all embarassing but here goes.

We are in debt about 34,000. I make 65,000. here are a few details.
Practically all our debt is cc. With a little medical thrown in on the side. The medical bill is in collection.
We dont own a house as no one would finance us and homes are really really expensive here. We have only one car a 97 dodge caravan that we had to have repairs done to...and we had to skip a months payments to conver the bill.
My wife works on the week ends. She cant go full time because 1) we cant afford another car and 2) child care would eat us alive. We are a family of 7.
17,15,9,3 yrs and the youngest 5 months. My two oldest are going to a religous school they have to go..please dont flame me for that..the next oldest is being homeschooled..we really dont like that option but its the only one we have.

Do you think we could declare bkruptcy?

You need to contact at least 3 attorneys for a free consultation..... lay your infor on the table and see what options are available to you.....

Sounds like a Chapter 7 (wipe the slate clean) kind of case to me..... Did you have student loans?? Back taxes???? Old child support payments???

A consultation will let you know what your up against, and what you can do and not do based on your income and situation.............

With a family your size, your income will not be considered too much......... I'm sure.....

                      Keep us posted,

Part of the CC debt we accumulated was kids in private school for a while. We leaned on CC's to make ends meet while we paid $10K a year for private school tuition.

Son went thru an awkward spell while he was in middle school. He was getting bullied and literally nearly beat to death at school while teachers and the administration looked the other way. His grades tumbled from honor roll to F's. He went from looking forward to going to school to having headaches and upset stomach all the time. Then, one day, he came home with an ISS slip. He'd been attacked in the boy's bathroom and he chose to defend himself that time. So we pulled him and sent him to private school. That type of behavior, bullying and physical abuse, is not at all tolerated in private school. We had our honor student back! We had such a good experience with the private school that we sent our daughters the next 2 years as well.

Then we realized, sadly, that we could not afford to keep the kids in private school. So we sent them back to public school when Son entered 9th grade. Thanks to private school education, Son basically skipped 9th grade, except for English. He was placed in Advanced English instead of regular English class. Our daughters, on the other hand, spent 7th grade relearning stuff they'd learned in 5th grade in private school.

No flaming from me. Public school education is pitiful!!

And, quite frankly, I admire you for tackling Home Schooling. We considered it, but decided against it. Partly because I'm not great at teaching. Partly it was the records keeping thing. And partly for the socialization aspect.

By the time kids in our School District got to High School, it wasn't "Cool" to be rude or bully anymore. So kids pretty well left Son alone. Some kid pushed Son the first week of 9th grade. Son stood his ground and the kid left him alone after that. Then, Son joined the football team. He not only became physically stonger, and mentally more agressive, he also became a part of a "brotherhood". Nobody messed with him after that.

You do what you gotta do for your kids. If it's private school, then so be it!
