    New Car

I am currently leasing my vehicle and need to turn my vehicle in on 1/27/2010 as my lease is ending. Our 341 is 1/20/2010. I need to have some vehicle to drive. My mother in law is willing to buy me a brand new vehicle!! Our attorney said we need to put the car in her name and then 6 months after discharge I can transfer ownership to me. It seems kinda shady - don't want to get in trouble with the trustee before or after. Any thoughts on this?

If your attorney advised you exactly as you state and you fully informed your attorney about the situation, then listen to your attorney who knows your situation and the trustee. If you hid from your attorney any aspect of this transaction, come clean.

You have a great mother in law. I would tell her that you are not in a position to receive a gift right now, but she could buy a car and let you use it. If at some point in the future, she attempts to give it to you again, you may be in a position to accept the gift.

I believe this is the senario that your attorney is suggesting.

Exactly. Thanks. The way you said it doesn't make me feel like a pulling a fast one against the system.
