I have a butlers Pantry.Small area we put the coffee pot and tea etc. Being from Mississippi, I bet MSBK Lawyer has one, and a butler to serve him his stew on a platter.

LOL!! is it a "cultural" thing. the people i knew had them were engish...and really drank tea.

you are correct, i believe, however, for me personally, i'm just asking for what we paid in over the colledtive 90 years we paid into our state for our unemployment insurance tax...and benefits.

your point is correct, there needs to be an some type of answer. " exacerbating the disease" .....perfect and wise view of what is happening. there is NO simple answer to this.

what i mean by "resolve" is that we ALL need to understand change MUST take place. not only downsizing, but this terrible tv and media that makes people believe their entitlement to it all, MUST stop.

i'm watching CNN...and they are showing a couple thinking about buying a home with a butler's kitchen???? what????? i'm almost ashamed, but, i had MANY freinds that had those...WHY??? no clue. what?? to spend another 20k on a room because they could...i dont' know...still.

and that's the point here...we need to want LESS, it what i believe is the point that MSbklawyer is making. and, not only are they a valid view, they are, in fact realistic... we just need to accept them.

Good for Oregon, that is so cool. I also like how Oregon doesn't allow employers to look at credit scores either when making a hiring decision. I live in California, and we have a new democrat governor and a democrat won the race for senate. So I am hoping California follows Oregons example and passes similar legislation.

Do you see, though, how that by trying to allay the symptom that is high and long-term unemployment, that these well-meaning state legislatures are exacerbating the disease that is lack of job-creating industries -- because those industries are saying to hell with your 2 year unemployment compensation and your overbearing regulations on how we vet our employees -- and chosing to set up shop in more busniness-friendly areas where their unemployment insurance premiums will be markedly less and they can screen their potential employees in the ways that they feel are best? Be it in another state or in another country altogether.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not begrudging anyone their unemployment compensation and I don't think credit reports are a reliable way to gauge someone's fitness for most employment. But businesses have a lot more choices today. Like it or not, labor is pretty much a commodity that would-be employers can get as easily in Kansas or Tennessee as they can in Oregon or California. And those businesses will go where they feel they are most wanted.

thanks for your kind words. at this point, i believe we are in "resolve"...past the we know we aren't getting jobs because we are too old bit., etc. that's why we are trying to get a business off the ground at this point...besides me doing ebay which only brings in gas money...

unemployment stopped our $50 every two weeks gas money, just in time for the gas prices to reach close to $4 a gallon here..

but i have to count our blessings, and be thankful for everthing!!! after all...how LUCKY were we to have purchased this hosue in feb???? how LUCKY are we to be able to know that the ONLY box that's coming out of this house will have ME in it...LOL!!!!!!!!!! it's small and within our means just with SS and small pension.

i would still love to work, however, we know it's so bad still here, by the time this area recovers i'll have one foot in the dirt..LOL!! so, that's why we are trying to get this off the ground. i know it will take about a year, but one of the only things free...is time??

Tobee, this was in 2007-2008. The extensions didn't start until 08. I was eligible for the extension right as I got my current job. I think they start you with 26 weeks, then you have to reapply for the extension.

no, actually, we began collectiing a bit later...early...i think jan. 2009....and we also had to at first, i guess was..(for the second tier) re-apply, the follow tiers are automatic. or number three came automatically. we will see tomorrow!!!

wife has been working part time temp jobs since April 2008 whe she lost her job. each time (twice) she qualifies for a new regular claim, they take her off the extension. She still gets up to 26 weeks on the new regular claim, but it is much less then the extension. She is losing a tem position in a month, and had 1 week left on a regular claim, but will be able to qualify again for the extension as she had at least 20 weeks remaining in a couple of the tiers, and since they extended the long term for the duration of this year. this will hold me over for the summer. the real solution is for her to find permenant employment which is tough here in California. i am fortunate to work for one of the only companies that is booming. we are hiring and a lot, good paying jobs. but not in California. the climate for business sucks here.

A small local hardware store by me had an opening for a 20 hour/week no benefits minimum wage store clerk. Within 4 day they had over 250 applications....

That's as good a snapshot of the current job market climate as it gets...how much do you want to bet that 30% or more of these 250 people had four-year degrees...

It's interesting here in MI, they did cut future UI recipients to 20 weeks, but they did that to extend the 99ers by another 6 weeks. I was unemployed for 14 months, and only got the standard 26 weeks. That was shortly before the extensions started. It was tough but I managed to piece together part time work and moved in with my parents. It's not easy all around. Our state is almost bankrupt itself. Scary times.

that's really interesting you say that....we just spoke to someone that also only got the standard 26 weeks. my guess, is this...how long were you employed by the employer...maybe????

we only had a few employers between the two of us with a combined 90 year work history? i wonder if that, and also that WE added and paid into the accounts ourselves matters? also, we will never get what we put into the fund in the state we worked......even IF they extend the bill...
