    Silly putty/gum out of carpet???

Does anybody have a good way of removing silly putty out of the carpetting? Son left it on the carpet. I didn't see it and I stepped right in it, grinding it right in...LOL.

Anything I could use to get it out. I've pulled off what I can already.

    Thanks!

There's a product called "Oops". It's a clear, thin liquid that comes in a 32 ounce can with a small, screw on cap. Oops will take latex paint off carpet without leaving a color stain behind. You might try that.

You can find Oops in the paint section of Wal-Mart or at Home Depot, Lowes, other "hardware" type stores.

One thing about Oops. It's kinda like paint thinner. Flamable. And you can get a buzz if you sniff too much of it. Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after you've used Oops. Or get some of those heavy duty "rubber" cleaning gloves that are solvent proof.

Don't let Oops saturate your carpet. Don't pour any on directly on the carpet. If you do, the Oops can disintegrate the glue backing of your carpet and cause it to fall apart. Put some Oops on a clean, white rag and then spot clean that area of your carpet.

Spray on WD-40, let sit for 10 minutes, then blot with a cloth moistened with plain isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol until no Silly Putty or stain remains. My son was a Silly Putty nut - this combination took it off carpet and even out of our dog's fur!

I used to work for a carpet cleaning company that did strictly Blockbuster video stores nationwide. Oops was all we used to remove gum from carpeting.

Another option, is to find an aerosol freezing agent. I can't think of one off hand, but there are things you can spray on to freeze the substance, then it will break off like chunks of ice.
